Many people use CBD oil to reduce inflammation, soothe pain, or improve their body’s response to stress. Its benefits have shown promising results alongside its fascinating extraction procedure. Moreover, CBD has no THC whatsoever, which means there are absolutely no hallucinogenic effects when consuming it.

In case you want to create your own CBD oil, there is an easy way to achieve this. Olive oil has an inherent flavor, making it a perfect base for many cannabis-infused recipes and self-care products. Its quality preserves CBD’s features, showing that together are an ideal match.

Like hemp seeds and hemp seed oil, olive oil has a high percentage of omega-3 fatty acids. These omega fats are essential for proper heart health, regulate blood sugar and improve insulin. The FDA recommends having two tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil daily to reduce your risk of heart disease and Alzheimer’s disease and aid in weight loss. Along with cannabis-infused coconut oil, it’s a great alternative to vegan cannabutter.

With this guide, you’ll bring out full-spectrum cannabinoids, allowing them to bind with the olive oil of your preference. Keep in mind that your oil’s potency will depend on whether you have CBD dominant flower or THC dominant flower.

Make sure to do your best to calculate an accurate estimate of the CBD milligrams per serving beforehand. We advise you to use measuring spoons to dose and always sample each batch before serving others. "Olive" our flower strains taste incredible, why not give them a try?

How to Make CBD Oil with Olive Oil

This method involves using the stove for heating the olive oil and the decarboxylated cannabis flowers together in a closed container placed inside in a temperature-controlled water bath. Make sure you gather the following ingredients and equipment to start.

Preparation Time: 30 mins Cooking Time: 3-4 hrs

  1. Decarboxylate Process: 20 to 60 minutes
  2. Boiling oil’s Process: 2½ to 3 hours

Servings: 2 cups (16 oz) of CBD Olive Oil.

Equipment Needed

  • Baking sheet
  • Cheesecloth
  • Sterilized Mason Jar
  • Funnel
  • Slow cooker, crockpot, instant pot, or a medium-sized saucepan
  • Candy thermometer
  • Fine-mesh strainer

Ingredients

  • 1-ounce CBD-rich decarboxylated cannabis flower
  • 2 cups of olive oil

Directions

Step 1

Decarbing your flower is the most crucial step for any cannabis recipe. The infused CBD olive oil requires a CBD cannabis strain. To properly convert CBDA to CBD, the best thing you can do is to decarboxylate it at 240–295˚F to unlock the full potential of CBD and enjoy its benefits.

You must do this before cooking, baking, or extracting oil from the dried flower buds of the cannabis plant. Alternatively, you can skip this process by grinding the bud into powder before adding it to hot olive oil. Consuming dried cannabis flower buds or raw cannabis will provide little to no intoxicating effect at all.

Set your oven at 240 to 295˚F. Line the baking sheet with tinfoil while the oven it’s heating. Break up your dry flowers using a grinder or your hands. In this step, you can use any of Botany Farms’ craft hemp flowers.

Place your ground cannabis in the baking sheet, spreading it evenly. Bake for 20 minutes at higher temperatures (275˚F and 295˚F) or 60 minutes at a lower heat. Remove carefully.

NOTE: Overheating degrades cannabinoids and terpenes, so be sure not to overcook.

      Step 2

Extra-virgin olive oil is a high-quality, unrefined olive oil. It’s made from pure, cold-pressed olives without using any chemicals or altered by temperature. This raw and organic oil has an authentic olive taste plus its vitamins and minerals, with a lower oleic acid level than other olive oil varieties.

EVOO is also extremely rich in antioxidants that reduce oxidative stress throughout your body. These polyphenols strengthen your immune system, making your body more resistant to infections and inflammation. To make CBD olive oil, choosing a regular pure olive oil to infuse will be the best choice.

This all-purpose oil is a blend of both cold-pressed EVOO and other processed oils. It has a much lighter color and a more neutral flavor with a higher oleic acid content (3-4%). Even though it has lower quality, it can withstand higher heat, making it a more useful oil for sauteing frying and other cooked applications.

      Step 3

To prevent any jar-moving or cracking during cooking time, lay a clean tea towel down on the bottom, trying to create a buffer between your mason jars and the slow cooker.

Fill it with enough hot water to cover the top of the mason jars you plan on using by an inch to create a water bath.

Set the slow cooker’s heat at high. Check the water’s temperature using a candy thermometer or a digital instant-read thermometer. When it reaches 185° F, turn the crockpot to low.

If you don’t have a slow cooker, other useful countertop appliances are crockpots or pressure cookers for better results. If you’re missing those, you can use a saucepan and heat at a low temperature.

        Step 4

Distribute the olive oil evenly between the mason jars you plan to utilize. You can use your sized preference. Just be sure they fit in, leaving a 1/2 inch headspace from the top.

Divide your already decarboxylated cannabis buds between the olive oil-filled jars and combine them. Wipe the rim of the jars with a clean paper towel and place the lid. Seal up the jar without tightening it too tightly.

          Step 5

Once the water bath reaches a temperature of 185° F-200° F, submerge the mason jars carefully inside a water bath using a slow cooker.

Place the lid on the slow cooker or a crockpot and bring to a gentle boil. Make sure the water bath does not exceed 200˚F for about 2½ to 3 hours.

Leave it alone to infuse and add water as needed to compensate for evaporation. Carefully remove the lid after 2 or 3 hours. Use an oven mitt to remove the mason jar safely. Set them aside to cool until it reaches room temperature.

            Step 6

Store the CBD Olive Oil in a jar. Place cheesecloth in a fine-mesh strainer over a sterilized Mason Jar. Pour the CBD-enriched olive oil through cheesecloth into the jar.

Gently press to extract the oil. Do not squeeze the cheesecloth to minimize chlorophyll flavors, which can be very unattractive. Store the sealed pot for about 2 hours in the refrigerator. Then, keep it in a dark cabinet at room temperature.

When you finish, you will have your infused CBD Olive Oil in a pot, alongside some leftovers that you can use for garnishing. If you choose to use extra virgin olive oil, notice that it might develop a bitter taste when cooked at a high temperature.

To avoid this, you can make a half olive oil, half water concoction in a saucepan. Upon completing the mixture, add the already prepared CBD cannabis buds. Then follow the same procedure. Once it is thoroughly cooled, your pot will have an intricate appearance. The olive oil will be separated along the top, while water remains on the bottom side.

              CBD Isolate Olive Oil

People use CBD for various health reasons, such as pain and anxiety. The difference between CBD oils relates to the contents of each form. There are three main types of CBD.

First, full-spectrum CBD is an extract containing other compounds of the cannabis plant, such as terpenes and other cannabinoids. The second type is broad-spectrum CBD, and the third one is CBD isolate, which is the pure form of CBD, meaning that it contains no other cannabis plant compounds. It usually comes from hemp plants, which have low amounts of THC.

This CBD product is sold up in its crystal form after it’s ground up as a tasteless and odorless powder. CBD Isolate Olive Oil is a THC-free product ideal for experimenting with its potential health benefits without other cannabis compounds interference. Stay calm because it will not show up in any drug tests.

However, be careful with unregulated CBD markets that claim their product is THC-free. The truth is that some trace amounts of THC remain present in the substance.

On the other hand, full-Spectrum CBD products may also contain up to 0.3% of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). This cannabinoid produces a ‘high’ feeling in people. While it is not strong enough to have significant psychoactive effects, it will make you test positive on a marijuana drug test.

All full-spectrum cannabinoids work together to provide the entourage effect that can enhance CBD’s medicinal benefits. It's important to mention that any hemp-derived CBD products with less than 0.3% THC are federally legal but still illegal under some state laws.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not approved nonprescription CBD products. Cannabis-derived CBD products, however, are unlawful federally but legal under some state laws. As an ingredient, CBD isolate can be either consumed in its powdered form, but it is easier to work with if you use it like any other CBD oil.

Measure out a dose of CBD oil and consume it by taking it sublingually, leaving it under your tongue for a minute or two. You can also use it as an ingredient to infuse food or drinks with CBD, such as delicious smoothies and hot chocolate.

              CBD Olive Oil Tincture

CBD oil tinctures are liquid extract hemp combined with a mixture of 60-70% distilled alcohol, glycerin, or cinnamon/peppermint oil. Thanks to its presence of alcohol, it preserves and enhances the life of CBD. Moreover, it has a higher bioavailability and a long shelf life compared to CBD oil. It comes in different flavors like chocolate or vanilla.

Regardless of its alcohol base, both CBD oil and Tinctures mimic the same therapeutic properties. Because tinctures contain a low potency of CBD, the correct dosage varies from user to user. They are widely used sublingually, facilitating their quick absorption to relieve inflammation, stress, anxiety, and many more. Between the ingredients found in the CBD Olive Oil tincture, we found:

              • Water
              • Herbs
              • Melatonin
              • Sweeteners
              • Basil, lavender, and other essential oils.
              • Essential vitamins such as B12, D, C.

Both consumption methods are discreet, without psychoactive impacts. Commonly, high-quality CBD oil is more expensive than a tincture. The decision between oil and this tonic is an individual’s choice and preference.

Hemp and Olive CBD Oil Benefits

Before going further, it is crucial to clarify the usual confusion around “Hemp oil” and “Hemp seed oil.” While hemp oil is another way people can refer to CBD oil, hemp seed oil comes from the Cannabis sativa plant’s seeds, which does not contain CBD. CBD oil is a compound with numerous reported potential health benefits. Among them, we can find:

              • Anti-seizure
              • Anti-anxiety
              • Anti-oxidant effect
              • Anti-inflammatory
              • Muscle spasm and pain relief
              • Neuroprotective
              • Treatment for psychotic disorders

CBD-derived products are safe and surprisingly versatile since they have properties that may help with epilepsy, anxiety, depression, and neurodegenerative conditions. In addition to that, people commonly use this to manage addiction, physical pain, and inflammatory skin conditions. Thankfully, it has limited side effects, which is why CBD oils have gained popularity through the years.
