What is Godfather OG Strain
Godfather OG is a 60/40 Indica-dominant hybrid strain. As the result of a crossing between Bubba Kush, L.A. Confidential, and GDP, this strain is nowhere close to ordinary. Thanks to its lineage and Indica nature, users report feeling happy, hungry, relaxed and sleepy.
The flavor profile is pretty complex as well, starting with candy-like grape notes that slowly evolve into different undertones and aromas. With so many strains in the market, Godfather OG is a top-shelf performer. A word of advice though, this strain is strong and is not for beginners thanks to its THC and cannabinoid content in general.

Godfather OG Strain Appearance
The looks of the Godfather OG are unforgettable. As a full-on eye candy, this strain has dense buds and strong and vibrant green colors all around. It also has a very pretty frosted look, thanks to trichome crystals covering the bud.
This strain features large calyxes, but what we love the most are its bright purple hairs. Some varieties also have slightly paler orange hairs, but the mix of greens, purples, and oranges gives this dense bud some personality.
Godfather OG Strain Genetics
Like all good film sagas, this strain’s genetics has several parts. While some growers have crossed Alpha OG and XXX OG to make it, others have used OG Kush and GDP, or Bubba Kush, L.A. Confidential, and GDP as well. As with usual mafia stories, the family gets complicated.
However, the most prominent variations are the Alpha OG, a spicy and herbal, high THC flower, and XXX OG, another high THC, relaxing hybrid strain. While the varieties have different flavors and aromas, the Don generally stays pretty similar in THC content and overall general profile.
THC/CBD Content
Let’s dive into the true power of Godfather OG, the THC content. This strain is one of the strongest Indica hybrids, with THC levels of about 22-25%. Some varieties rise to 28% of THC content, which is pretty high for an Indica. CBD wise you won’t find much in this strain.

Godfather OG Strain Terpenes
Thanks to its Kush lineage, the main terpene in the Godfather OG strain is Myrcene. This terpene is usually what gives herbal notes and boosts the strain’s relaxing effects. Humulene and Caryophyllene are also present in Don’s office but in fewer quantities.
The first terpene is what usually gives strains a pretty pleasant hoppy aftertaste, while also helping with anti-inflammatory properties. The latter, Caryophyllene, brings spice to the mix. It is also known by users thanks to the anecdotal anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving power-ups it adds to the terpene profile.
Godfather OG Strain Effects
This is where things get interesting. Users have reported that the high from this strain is unlike any other, as it can knock you out even as an Indica hybrid. Other reported effects from users are general euphoria, feelings of happiness, appetite stimulation, and mostly getting sleepy and relaxed.
While it is an Indica hybrid, we don’t recommend trying this one unless you make time for some couchlock. Some users have even said it helped them feel less nausea or deal with a lack of appetite.
Godfather OG Strain Reported Flavors
We know what you are thinking, and no, sadly this strain doesn’t feature Italian spices. However, it does have one of the most complex flavor profiles around, that even cannasseurs love.
For starters, the smell and taste are like no other Indica-dominant hybrids. The flavor begins with piney, earthy, and grape-like flavors that slowly fade away with pungent undertones. Other perceivable flavors are grape, wood, and of course hoppy notes. In the aroma department, you’ll find earthy, pungent, and spicey notes.
Some people have also reported getting grape candy aromatics as well, but that also depends on the variety of Don you are trying. If GDP is used in the mix, you’ll for sure get some of that fruity goodness as well, while other varieties might get more on the skunky side.
Godfather OG Strain Growing Info
This strain is not hard to grow. Thanks to its heritage, this flower can grow well indoors and outdoors. If it is grown in the sun, expect to harvest anywhere from early October.
When grown indoors, this plan usually flowers in about 8 to 9 weeks. Meaning the harvest times come in about the 10 through 12 mark. This plant can yield anywhere between 350 and 450 grams per square meter when grown indoors, and up to 600 grams per plant when grown outside.
This strain in general is not that big indoors, with the plant getting up to 3.5 feet. In the sun, these plants can grow up to 6.5 feet. So in general, the Don might seem complicated but it is a pretty noble strain to grow and yield.
Strains like Godfather OG Strain
There’s no strain like good old Godfather OG, but you might feel like you want something similar. Well, both Bubba Kush and GDP have incredible flavor profiles that have incredible potency and smoke. Also, they share lineages with certain varieties of Godfather OG, so if you are into grape-like flavors go for GDP, or for kushy undertones, Bubba Kush is perfect.
If you want something a little more sour, there are several great sour strains, including the Sour Space Candy with similar terpene composition while still being a hybrid. And if you like space-themed indicas, the Space Cadet has a similar lineage, also coming from OG Kush.
