Aromas have a power of persuasion much more potent than words, emotions, and appearances. Smells can generate sensations, awaken or mitigate desire, make us relive memories, and recall moments. When it comes to cannabis, we can say without a doubt that the smell of a bud is one of its most attractive features.

But, some situations calls for subtlety where you need to hide or dampen the smell of your favorite bud as you grind it. Luckily, there are several ways to grind your bud without grabbing the attention of every nose in the vicinity. In this article, we show you some tricks to help you grind your weed without it smelling.

Best Way to Grind Weed

There are many new and old methods for grinding weed, from rudimentary scissors to state-of-the-art gadgets that do practically all the work for you. Perhaps the best and most reliable way to grind weed is with a weed grinder.

But there are so many options available that choosing the best weed grinder can become quite challenging. For starters, you have grinders made of different materials, compartments, sizes, and added features.

The reality is that choosing a single grinder as "the best" depends almost entirely on each user's specific needs and preferences. You can find grinders made of metal, wood, or some type of acrylic. There are many great options to choose from.

Best Way to Grind Weed Without a Grinder.

Since cannabis tends to stimulate creativity, grinding your cannabis buds without owning a grinder itself is entirely possible. If you are at home, the kitchen is probably the best place to find a substitute for your grinder. Some of the options you can check are:

Coffee Grinder

While it may be made for coffee, it is still a grinder after all. To use a coffee grinder to grind your buds, make sure you clean all the coffee grounds out thoroughly since even a small amount of coffee can contaminate the mixture. Unless you like to smoke cannabis with coffee powder, you don't want your quality buds and coffee grounds to mix.

After this, make sure to break the buds into smaller pieces, so you don't damage your coffee grinder. After using the coffee grinder to grind your weed, clean it again so that the cannabis residue does not mix with your coffee.

Cheese Grater

This method is a little more laborious, but it will work perfectly to grind your weed. Clean the grater before you use it. Place a bowl or plate under the grater, take a bud, and start carefully grinding it as if the bud were a piece of cheese.

Be careful with your fingers when doing this to avoid any accidents, and be sure to clean the grater after you use it.

Mortar and Pestle

This back-to-basics classic may seem a bit archaic but can be just as effective as a grater or coffee grinder. To make this method easier, you could leave your buds out to dry for a bit or put them in the oven at very low heat to make your buds more brittle and easier to grind.

Make sure your mortar is very clean, break the buds a little, put a few pieces into the mortar, and start grinding. Just remember not to apply too much force when grinding, or you'll end up crushing the buds instead of grinding them.

Shot Glass and Scissors

When other options fail, you can grab a shot glass or small glass and some trusty scissors to do the work of grinding your buds up for smoking. Place the bud inside a clean glass and start cutting with the scissors inside the glass.

Cutting Board and Knife

It may be one of the most basic methods of grinding weed, but it's just as effective as all the others. Make sure you get a very sharp knife to make the job easier, get your cutting board, and start mincing your bud until it's ground to the size you want.

How to Grind Weed Without it Smelling

One of the biggest attractions of an excellent high-quality bud is the aroma that its terpene profile generates. When we grind good-quality nugs with an intense aroma, the smell can intensify even more and fill the entire space.

But sometimes the intense smell of fresh weed may not be the ideal scent to perfume the space with. Luckily, there are some hacks you can apply to grind your weed without the smell.

Grind Outside the House

As simple and logical as it sounds: if you do not want to fill your entire house with the intense smell of fresh cannabis when grinding your buds, then just go out to your yard for a moment or take advantage of some time outside your house to grind all the weed you want.

Suppose you have a highly aromatic cannabis flower like our Delta-8 Zombie Kush or our Delta-8 Sour Hawaiian Haze, you can take a moment and discreetly go out on the patio or anywhere outside your house where you can grind your buds without the smell bothering anyone.

After you have your aromatic cannabis flowers perfectly ground to your liking, store them in a vase or any type of container or bag that preserves the humidity levels well. This way, your weed does not dry out so quickly and thus, maintains intact its terpenes profile for a bit longer.

Grind in a Bag

It is not completely necessary to watch your grinder as you grind your buds. You can load your grinder with grind-sized pieces of bud and place the grinder inside a bag that will retain the smell coming from the buds before you start grinding.

You can do this with basically any bag but it’s much better to use a large transparent zip bag to make the job easier. This way, you will also be able to observe the grinder inside the bag while you grind, and you won't have to worry about the smell of freshly ground buds filling your entire room or house.

As with the previous method, once you grind your buds, make sure to store them in a safe and cool place to preserve your fresh weed for as long as possible. Remember that when cannabis is ground and held in this way, it tends to lose moisture faster and therefore can lose its smell and degrade its cannabinoid content.

Pre-roll More Often

Another convenient way to avoid flooding your entire house with the smell of cannabis is to have your joints pre-rolled whenever possible. If your buds carry an intense and pungent smell like the aroma of our Delta-8 Abacus 2.0, you can have sessions of grinding and rolling your joints in a convenient place. This way, when you feel like smoking, you can simply take a joint from your reserve, go out, and smoke it where you can.

Grind in the Bathroom

This hack can be handy and very practical, but perhaps for some, it is not the first option on the list. You can use your moments of privacy in the bathroom to grind your buds, as the bathroom is a place where people usually don't go to “check” for odors for obvious reasons.

If your bathroom has some kind of ventilation, the smell of freshly ground buds will eventually disappear. In addition, the steam of hot water from the shower can help to dispel odors a little more quickly. The only thing is, this is not the most eco-friendly way to grind your cannabis buds.
