To preserve as many terpenes and cannabinoids as possible, freeze the plant material with water and ice.
Then, using an extraction process such as CO2, ethanol, or butane, separate the terpenes and cannabinoids from the remainder of the inert plant materials. The latter approach is referred to as BHO.
