Hemp has been known for providing numerous benefits to the mind and body, but it could be said that among all the parts of the plant, hemp seeds are the best ones to use for cooking. Here we list some of the benefits of hemp hearts, besides the ones mentioned above:

  • Balanced ratio of omega fatty acids: hemp contains omega-3 and omega-6 acids, which strengthen your immune system.
  • High in protein: hemp seeds are considered to be nutritionally superior to chia and flax, making it an ideal vegetable source of protein.
  • Contains dietary fiber: you can find 17g of fiber per serving of hemp seeds. This is great to improve your digestive system.
  • Fights blood clots: hemp seeds can break down high cholesterol and improve blood circulation in the body.
  • Great source of vitamins and minerals: vitamin E, potassium, calcium, iron and zinc are some of the minerals found in hemp seeds.

In terms of flavor, hemp seeds tend to have a nutty taste, while hemp hearts don’t really taste like anything. This makes a better option to use in your recipes, since it won’t add any flavors to the original plate. However, you can find flavored hemp hearts available on the market, as well as toasted hemp seeds.

Hemp Granola Recipe

To make hemp granola, you will need:

  • 1/4 cup peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup agave syrup
  • ¾ cup raw pecans
  • 2 Tbsp coconut oil
  • 3-4 Tbsp hemp seeds
  • 2 tsp chia seeds
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp vanilla extract
  • pinch of sea salt
  • 1 cup oats
  • 1/2 chopped dates

Feel free to add any other ingredient of your preference to make your very own hemp granola.

To begin with the recipe, preheat your oven to 250° F. Then, take all your ingredients except the dates, peanut butter, coconut oil and agave syrup to a food processor and make sure the nuts and seeds are chopped into smaller pieces. Once you are done with this step, take a pot and add the remaining ingredients to mix them. When they are well combined, add the mix to a bowl and stir with the chopped nuts and seeds. Make sure the mix feels thick and it is well combined, then take to a baking sheet and pour the mixture onto the sheet, creating an even layer.

Bake for 20-35 minutes until you see the edges have gained a beautiful golden brown color. Then remove from the oven and let it cool before serving. You can store any leftover in a mason jar in the fridge. It will last almost 14 days, saving you some time and effort for your next breakfast or snack. Eat it with milk, yogurt or even by the handful to enjoy a totally natural plate.
