Homemade CBD oil capsules seem to be a chaotic and confusing mess. Managing a capsule maker, putting gel caps back together, filling them without wasting a lot of product... It seems like there are multiple complex materials and a high level of expertise involved.

However, once you actually decide to start making and trying these capsules for the experience, you will be glad you did. These homemade CBD capsules will change your life, so don't be afraid. Since this way of consuming is easy to use and dose, canna caps are a success in dispensaries. There are benefits to taking CBD Capsules vs Tinctures.

Given how CBD is metabolized by the liver, eating a sugary tincture-infused candy or a fat-based cannabis chocolate bar with the same CBD content could have different effects. However, if you take a cannacap as soon as you wake up or right before you go to sleep, you can be pretty confident that every capsule will have an identical effect, and you can adjust the concentration accordingly.

CBD-infused capsules are an excellent recipe for anyone aiming for a healthy, low-cost, and fast at-home treatment using ground hemp flower. The necessary materials are inexpensive and can be found online or at your local drugstore or convenience store.

This simple homemade project takes just a few hours and can be completed in various ways, depending on the ingredients and equipment you have on hand.

How to Make CBD Capsules

Ingredients

  • 7–14 grams of ground hemp flower. Ground-up flower is the best option for this particular recipe, but concentrates are fine.
  • ¼–½ cup of organic extra-virgin coconut oil. The quantity depends on how many flowers you are using and the potency you want in your capsules.
  • ½ tsp. soy lecithin

This recipe works ten times better with the use of coconut oil and soy lecithin infusion. When administered together, these two serve as excellent metabolizing agents for cannabinoids as they move through our gastrointestinal tract, allowing us to get a more potent effect when taking them orally.

Equipment

  • 1 cooking pot with lid
  • 1 glass bowl
  • 1 10mm syringe
  • 1 baking tray
  • Oven
  • 1 sheet of parchment paper
  • 1 piece of cheesecloth
  • 45 to 50 empty gelatin capsules (size 00)
  • 1 small bowl
  • Capsule holders
  • 1 rubber band
  • 1 spatula

If possible, get a capsule filling machine as an alternative to the capsule holders. These tools are able to make capsule filling much quicker and more automated; nevertheless, the device is not strictly needed.

Decarb your Hemp Flower

Before making your homemade CBD capsules, it is necessary to decarb your hemp. Here are the steps on how to decarb hemp flower:

  1. Preheat your oven to a temperature of 240°F.
  2. Grind your CBD flower. For this, we recommend you get our best-seller, the Sour Special Sauce strain. If you don't have a weed grinder near you, split the bud up with your fingers into really tiny bits and then cut them with a knife.
  3. Create a very thin layer of ground hemp flower on a baking tray, spreading them evenly.
  4. Put the baking tray on the middle shelf and bake for 90 minutes.
  5. Allow cooling after removing from the oven. The CBD flower should have a brownish appearance and a dry texture. When you roll it between your fingertips, it should fall to pieces.

Directions

Step 1

Start by filling your cooking pot 3/4 full of water and bringing it to a gentle boil. Place your glass cooking bowl inside the rim of your cooking pot with your coconut oil and soy lecithin so that the bowl sits about 1-2 inches above the soft boiling water.

After the coconut oil and soy lecithin have melted for a few minutes, you can incorporate your finely ground and decarboxylated cannabis. Mix the ingredients until they are fully homogeneous.

Step 2

After draining the hot water from your cooking pot, add the oil mixture. Return the pot to the oven for an additional 30-45 minutes at 220 degrees. Check in a couple of times to stir. If preferred, cook the concentrate for a longer time.

This may affect your final product’s potency because it allows for more degradation of CBD to THC. This conversion is known to give your fully completed capsule a more sedative and analgesic effect.

Step 3

Prepare the size 00 empty gelatin capsules and their holders while the oil is finishing in the oven.

Step 4

Using the rubber band, secure your cheesecloth around the rim of your smaller bowl. Take the oil from the oven when it is ready and filter it through the cheesecloth into the small bowl, collecting any unwanted particles along the way.

Step 5

Wait until the oil has cooled to a temperature of less than 100°F before filling your syringe. At 100 degrees, gelatin capsules begin to melt, so make sure your oil is as cold as possible before it solidifies.

Step 6

Using the syringe’s curved, deep-reach tip, feed the oil into the gelatin capsules one at a time until you run out of oil; repeat as necessary, and close each capsule once you finish. You may discover that you have overfilled a few homemade CBD capsules during this process. Wipe away any residual residue with a kitchen towel or tissue.

You should keep the caps you have not consumed in a cold, dark place, such as the refrigerator, until you're ready to use them. This recipe should provide you with 45–50 capsules if performed correctly. Experience your natural CBD infusion, but keep in mind that the oil is now a cannabis concentrate and therefore strong, so administer carefully.

Ensure you take the right dose of CBD daily, and talk to a doctor if you want to use these homemade CBD capsules as a complementary treatment. Three factors will determine dosing: starting strain potency, the oil ratio, and how well done decarboxylation is. Yet, taking your caps to a lab for testing is the most straightforward and precise way to determine their power.

You can also consider your starting material’s potency and convert it to milligrams to get a rough estimate of how solid your caps are. Divide it by the total caps’ net weight after subtracting 10% lost with the decarb process.
