Compared to the traditional method of simmering in a saucepan for many hours, using a slow cooker simplifies the whole process. It also allows you to breeze through the lengthiest part of the recipe without having your eyes glued to the stove the whole time. Read on to learn our slow cooker cannabutter recipe.

How to Make Cannabutter With a Slow Cooker

Ingredients

  • 1 oz. fresh, high-quality cannabis buds
  • 450 g butter
  • 1 to 2 cups of water

Equipment Needed

  • Herb Grinder

  • Strainer
  • Cheesecloth
  • Glass container (mason jar, pitcher, large bowl)

Instructions

  1. Using an herb grinder, reduce the cannabis to a fine texture. The finer, the better – feel free to spend some time on this part of the process.   2. Take your fresh cannabis and put it in the oven on a baking sheet at about 240-250 degrees Fahrenheit. Take out after 20-30 minutes. Once ready, turn your slow cooker to a low setting, and fill it with a cup or two of water (depending on the cooker’s internal volume), as well as 450 g of butter.
  3. Add your ground cannabis and keep it covered while cooking. We recommend slow cooking your cannabutter for at least 6 to 12 hours, especially if it’s your first time trying! Cannabutter Slow Cooker 24 Hours

Alternatively to our above recipe, you might want to try the below variation, which extends the slow cooking time to a whopping 24 hours! Some do prefer the extra time as they feel it gives the cannabutter a nicer consistency when it’s finished. It might also result in slightly higher cannabinoid absorption, making it more potent.

Cannabutter Slow Cooker No Decarb

In this variation, we will be following a no decarb recipe for making cannabutter. What does this mean? Well, remember how, in our two above recipes, we put our cannabis in the oven before going ahead and adding it to the butter on the stovetop?

The heat inside the oven decarboxylates (decarbs) your cannabis, activating its ingredients. THCa gets converted to usable THC, CBDa to CBD, and so on. This is what makes the finished cannabutter so potent in THC, CBD, and other important cannabinoids!

However, in some cases, you might want to make cannabutter without a decarb. For example, if you are going to use your cannabutter for baking, then the heat will likely decarb the cannabis anyway. Hence, you’ll want to keep it fresh at first so that when decarboxylation does occur later, it will be more recent, and more cannabinoids will be directly absorbed into the dough.

You can follow the recipe variation below if you want to make cannabutter in a slow cooker with no decarb. As you’ll see, very little, if anything, changes here – just skip the decarbing process in the beginning!
