Everyone loves delicious, sweet treats like gummies, and they’re even better if these contain potent cannabinoids that will make the experience unforgettable. You may be familiar with cannabis gummies and how they work, but have you ever made your own?

In this article, we want to give a little twist to the common THC gummy recipes you can find online. If you have a kief collector chamber in your grinder, don’t throw that precious pollen to waste. Here’s a brief guide on how to make THC gummies with kief.

What is Kief?

Let’s start off by defining kief. While some may think that it is a whole different product entirely separate from cannabis, you may be surprised to learn that it actually comes from your precious buds.

Rather than smoking the entire flower, the microscopic trichomes that coat the plant's surface are torn away and separated, leaving a beige powdery material behind when you grind them.

Many people separate their pollen from their buds by freezing and shaking them up in a microperforated tumbler that won’t destroy the plant. Others simply have a four-part grinder that allows them to collect their kief from the grinding process.

Whichever you go with, both of these variants are acceptable and will give you the kief you’ll use for our recipe. If you’re looking for a more professional approach, use a kief box that will allow you to collect your starting product better.

Can You Make Edibles With Kief?

Turning your cannabis into an edible is fun and closer to science than to actual cooking. Of course, it involves some culinary action, but there are a lot of processes that need to be done to turn your kief into edibles. To begin, you must collect your kief.

Do so by using a kief box as described previously or by collecting the leftover pollen from the grinding of your buds. The best news is you can smoke a joint while you cook because you need to grind some herb to produce the delicate kief you’ll be using.

How To Decarb Kief

The first thing you want to do after you’ve obtained your kief is to activate all the necessary substances, so they actually do something later. This process is called decarboxylation, and it occurs whenever you spark a joint, hit the dab with a pen, or apply heat in a vaporizer to your oils.

Decarboxylation (also known as "decarbing") is the process of transforming raw cannabis into a more powerful form. In more technical terms, decarboxylation is the physical alteration of the chemical structure of numerous cannabinoid chemicals found in raw cannabis plants, such as marijuana and hemp.

The cannabinoids within the trichomes of a cannabis plant have an additional carboxyl ring or group (COOH) linked to its molecular chain when growing or freshly harvested. The carboxyl group on the marijuana molecule is removed during decarboxylation, basically giving it power!

This procedure efficiently converts THCA into active THC (or raw CBDA into CBD). To decarboxylate kief, you must bake it at 240°F for 10 to 15 minutes, depending on the amount you use.

Evenly distribute your kief on a silicone mat and cover it with foil to preserve terpenes and humidity. This process will give it the necessary heat to turn the THCA into the THC that your body will later consume.

Best Edible Gummy Recipe

Equipment Needed

  • Large saucepan/pot
  • Whisk or silicone spatula
  • Silicone candy or ice molds

Ingredients

  • 1.5 g of kief
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 6 ounces of gelatin of your preferred flavor and brand
  • 1 tablespoon of vegetable glycerin

Instructions

  1. Gather your kief and decarb by baking for 10–15 minutes at 240°F in a preheated oven.
  2. Combine the gelatin packets and 1/2 cup water in a heavy saucepan, then simmer over low heat until the sugar has completely dissolved.
  3. To make the decarboxylated kief smooth, combine it with vegetable glycerin and add it to the mixture with a silicone spatula. Do not let it boil! Ever! If it starts to boil, you will lose the THC content.
  4. Continue to whisk and scrape down the sides of the pan with a spatula until everything is fully combined and no longer gritty.
  5. Chill for a few hours after pouring into silicone molds.
  6. Take it out of the fridge and enjoy it.

Now, you have a sweet batch of THC gummies with kief that you can enjoy for days and share with your friends. Remember that edibles can be tricky; don’t consume more than you can handle until you check how a few gummies make you feel.
